Spybot Search and Destroy...

As mentioned earlier, Spybot S&D has different strengths than AdAware. It will remove some of the more persistent types of scumware which install/run themselves at startup. If you have this type of scumware/spyware, after the scan is complete, Spybot S&D will ask if it is OK for it to restart your machine and run on startup. Tell Spybot that it is 'OK' to reset and run on startup if it reports that you have this type of infection.

OK, let's start Spybot S&D

Here is the first screen you will see:

This one is pretty easy, just click on 'OK'
(If you installed the language pack, the first time you run Spybot S&D, you will be prompted to choose a language, then you will see the above screen.)

Screen two - again very easy, click 'OK'. This screen just tells us something we already know - AdAware is installed.

Always do this first....

Every time you run Spybot S&D (AdAware, too) check for updates. By checking for updates each time you scan for scum, you will always have the latest definitions to check against.

In Spybot S&D, checking for updates requires you to choose a server location, step 1 (above), and then click on the 'Search for Updates' button, step 2 (above). Choose the server location closest to where you are located in the world.
